It seems former MLB commissioner Bud Selig has found his calling post-retirement from the game. He’s set to join the Sports Law and Business program as a teacher at the law school of Arizona State University.

According to Anne Ryman of the Arizona Republic Selig will teach and will be the founding president of an advisory board to the program, while overseeing an initiative to bring in speakers as a part of the “Bud Selig Speaker Series on Sports in America.”

Selig said he’s thrilled to teach at Arizona State and is excited to give back.

“I am particularly excited because my wife and I have our second home here, and I am pleased to have this opportunity to give back to the great state of Arizona,” he said.

ASU Law Dean Douglas Sylvester says student should learn a lot from Selig considering his large amount of experience.

“Our students will have an invaluable opportunity to tap into the vast experience andknowledge Selig brings to the Sports Law and Business program from his 22-and-a-half years as commissioner,” Sylvester said. “In those years he oversaw and initiated strategic changes that transformed Major League Baseball. In addition, Bud is a natural teacher with years of experience in mentoring students and imparting his knowledge to the next generation of sports leaders.”

Selig, who reportedly owns a home in Scottsdale, won’t be a fish out of water as the former commissioner has teaching credentials. He taught at Marquette since 2009 and started teaching a course at the University of Wisconsin last fall.

The 81-year-old still earns $6 million a year in salary from retirement, so it’s not like he needs the money. Selig genuinely must love teaching and giving back the things he has learned and experienced in his life.
