A scary moment took place in San Francisco as catcher Buster Posey had to leave the Diamondbacks-Giants game after he was drilled in the head by a Taijuan Walker wild pitch. Posey remained conscious throughout and was taken to the locker room. The Giants then replaced Posey for the rest of the game as he underwent evaluation.

Posey got hit toward the back of the head. You can tell that he was bracing himself and was trying to avoid getting hit but you can only do so much when trying to react to a 94 mph fastball.

If there’s a silver lining to this, it seemed like the pitch just got away from Walker. You could tell almost immediately that Diamondbacks players were concerned and worried about Posey’s health so it didn’t seem like there was any ill will to do this intentionally. Particularly with increased concern with head injuries, we await what kind of condition Posey will be in in the coming days.

In the first week of the season, Posey is batting .333 with a home run and two RBI.
