The St. Louis Cardinals came into Sunday’s matchup against the Detroit Tigers on a brutal eight-game losing streak. Luckily for them, star first baseman Paul Goldschmidt put on a special performance to put an end to their struggles.

While the team as a whole had been struggling mightily, Goldschmidt has been as steady as ever this season, hitting .302 on the year with a .396 on-base percentage.

Those numbers skyrocketed thanks to his unreal play in Sunday’s game. He started things off with a solo home run to dead center field to give his team an early lead.

His second at-bat netted the same result to the same part of the field in the bottom of the third inning to extend their lead to 3-0.

St. Louis was able to hang onto the lead to come away with the victory. Goldschmidt again put an exclamation point on the win with his third home run of the game in the bottom of the eighth inning.

It is the third time in Goldschmidt’s excellent career that he has hit three home runs in a game. Many around the MLB world took to social media to praise him for his terrific day at the plate.

This is obviously a great moment for both the Cardinals and Paul Goldschmidt. However, there are still clearly some issues that the team needs to work out to turn their season around. St. Louis sits at just 11-24 on the season even after their victory on Sunday.
