Christopher Morel, a relatively unknown 23-year-old Chicago Cubs outfielder who began the season in the minors, is now MLB’s hottest hitter.

He’s not just “seeing the ball well,” as a manager or hitting coach might say. Morel is mashing the ball at a clip not seen in modern Cubs history

The phenom hit yet another home run Saturday, his seventh in his first 10 games since making his season debut on May 9.

There was nothing cheap about his home run in the eighth inning against Philadelphia Phillies reliever Connor Brogdon. It left the bat at 101.2 mph and traveled 406 feet, according to Statcast.

Morel becomes the first Cubs player in modern history to hit seven home runs in his first 10 games of a season.

Beyond knocking the ball out of the park, Morel is batting .381 with an OPS of 1.361. He has 13 RBIs already and five multi-hit games.

Morel batted ninth in the order Saturday. It might be time for manager David Ross to rethink Morel’s spot.

It’s a wonder it took the Cubs so long to call up Morel from Triple-A Iowa, where he had 11 home runs and a 1.155 OPS in 115 at-bats.

Cubs fans who’ve suffered through a couple of tough seasons now have a player to get excited about.
