Back in 2019, the baseball world was hit with shocking news when former Major League Baseball star David Ortiz was attacked and shot as part of a wild murder attempt that left the former Boston Red Sox star hospitalized with gunshot wounds. And now, it appears that his attackers have been brought to justice.

According to a report from ESPN, 10 of the 13 people accused of attacking David Ortiz in the 2019 incident have been convicted in court in the Dominican Republic.

Rolfi Ferreyra Cruz, who is accused of shooting Ortiz, and Eddy Vladimir Feliz Garcia were each sentenced to 30 years in prison, according to ESPN. Their sentences are the longest sentences among the defendants. The other eight defendants who were convicted received sentences of between 5 and 20 years in prison, according to ESPN.

Ortiz spent six weeks in a Dominican hospital following the attack, but it was revealed during the investigation that Ortiz was not even supposed to be the target of the murder attempt. According to ESPN, Dominican authorities have revealed that target was meant to be his cousin, Sixto David Fernandez. Fernandez was sharing a table with Ortiz at a bar when he was shot as the hitmen confused Fernandez with Ortiz.
