The Republican Presidential Primary Debate was held on Wednesday as candidates did their very best to convince those watching at home that they are the right candidate to represent the country in the upcoming presidential election. But it lacked one important candidate, as Donald Trump instead hosted a rally shortly after the debate finished up on Wednesday night.

Trump held the rally at Ted Hendricks Stadium in Hialeah, Florida, where he spoke to his supporters. One supporter in particular, New York Yankees pitcher Nestor Cortes, received a special shoutout from Trump.

“And a great pitcher for the New York Yankees,” said Trump. “They call him the Hialeah kid. Nestor Cortes, where is Nestor? He’s a great pitcher, he’s got that fastball.”

It’s certainly not the shoutout that most were expecting from Trump on Wednesday night. And MLB fans had plenty to say about it.

Cortes is a fine pitcher for the Yankees. He even made the All-Star game last season. But he’s not exactly the first player that you would expect for Trump to shout out at one of his rallies.

It was likely just because Cortes was seemingly in attendance for the rally. And the rally was being held in the hometown of Cortes in Hialeah, which obviously garnered a reaction from those in attendance at the rally.

Regardless, most MLB fans certainly saw this moment from Trump as rather random…
