The New York Mets entered the 2026 Major League Baseball season with very high expectations. FanGraphs’ projections on March 25 had the Mets winning 90 games, fewer than only the Los Angeles Dodgers. And the Mets’ competitive balance tax payroll ranks second in MLB behind only the Dodgers, while their cash payroll ranks first.
Well, the season has gone quite poorly for the Mets, who currently have a 43-60 record that’s tied for the fourth-worst in the majors. The season has been filled with countless frustrating losses and embarrassing moments for New York.
And now, even President Donald Trump is calling out the Mets’ dismal season.
Speaking at a rally in Georgia, Trump introduced Atlanta Braves president and CEO Mike Plant, as well as former Braves manager Brian Snitker, who was Atlanta’s manager in the 2021 World Series championship season.
Trump managed to roast the Mets while introducing Plant and Snitker at the rally.

“So, I like baseball. I like baseball,” Trump said. “But this guy’s done such a great job. You know, the Mets have the highest salary in baseball, and they lose all the time.”
“And I say, maybe we could steal this guy!” Trump continued. “But the team, the way the Atlanta Braves have been managed for years; for years and years. And he’s the CEO of the Atlanta Braves, Mike Plant. You don’t realize how good he is… There are teams like that, where they never go down.”
“Then you have other teams; ‘We’re rebuilding!’ They’ve been rebuilding for years. I don’t want to mention teams, because I know all the owners,” Trump added. “They’re all friends of mine. I’d get myself in trouble.”
