Elly De La Cruz steals home Elly De La Cruz steals home

There aren’t many players in Major League Baseball who can steal second base, then immediately steal third base without even a throw. And almost nobody in the league would even try to attempt what Cincinnati Reds rookie Elly De La Cruz did next.

After hitting a two-out single in the top of the seventh inning against the Milwaukee Brewers, Elly De La Cruz wasted no time stealing second base with ease. Just a few seconds later, he decided to go ahead and steal third base, as well, doing so without even a throw from Brewers catcher William Contreras. But instead of simply taking his two stolen bases, De La Cruz boldly set his targets on stealing home.

After De La Cruz stole third, the Brewers stopped paying attention to him on the basepaths – and the Reds’ rookie took advantage. Just as Contreras threw the ball back to the mound and pitcher Bryse Wilson turned his back, De La Cruz broke for home. By the time Wilson realized what was happening, it was too late and De La Cruz slide in safely at home to give the Reds’ a 7-5 lead.

It was an absolutely wild move, and the MLB world had plenty to say about it on Twitter.

De La Cruz becomes the first Reds player to steal second, third and home in the same inning since 1919.
