Major League Baseball fans love trolling the New York Mets when they’re down. Apparently, Elton John is no different.

After leading the NL East for nearly the entire 2022 MLB season, the Mets were swept by the Atlanta Braves over the weekend, all but destroying any hopes they had of winning the division.

Even though the Mets already have a spot in the postseason locked up by way of the Wild Card, it was a demoralizing three-game sweep for the team and their fanbase. And if any Mets fan coped with the loss to Atlanta by attending Elton John’s Sunday night concert in Nashville, TN, they should request a refund.

“Something that makes me very happy tonight,” John (seen above performing in New Jersey in July) said as he took a moment to address something very important while on stage at his Nashville concert. “The Braves swept the Mets.”

“Yeah, baby!” John added with a fist bump.

Atlanta completed their three-game sweep of the Mets around 9:30pm local time in Nashville, which means John was knee-deep in his 8pm Farewell Yellow Brick Road show and still had someone in his ear alerting him of the sweep.

John, who is known for being a big sports fan, moved to Georgia in 1991, the same year the Atlanta Braves began a streak of 14 straight division titles, so timing was perfect for the Rocket Man to jump on their bandwagon. More than three decades later, John’s Braves fandom and affinity for trolling the Mets doesn’t seem to have waivered.
