cubs indians

There doesn’t seem to be much of a question now that the Chicago Cubs are once again “America’s Team,” at least according to recent trends in Google searches. Leading up to Game 7, Ohioans are mostly searching about the Indians. However, every other state is more interested in the Cubs, and in most states it is by a heavy margin.

While there’s no proof that search interest indicates rooting interest, it’s certainly a telling sign.

In the top 20 trending search terms about the World Series, five include the words “Chicago” or “Cubs” but only one includes “Cleveland” or “Indians.” In general, search interest for the Cubs has been greater even throughout the World Series, even during and following games the Indians won.

However, Chicago is surprisingly not the metro area most interested generally in the World Series, according to Google. While Cleveland leads metro areas, Chicago comes in at No. 11, behind several other areas in Western and Southern Illinois.
