Since acquiring arguably the greatest baseball player of all time, two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani, in 2023 for a historic $700 million deal, the Los Angeles Dodgers have emerged as the MLB’s dominant superpower.
The Dodgers and Ohtani won the 2024 and 2025 World Series, and entered Wednesday tied with the Milwaukee Brewers for the best record in baseball at 67-40. Unfortunately, the franchise had some ominous developments reported this week.
According to Bloomberg News’ Zachary R. Mider, “Federal agents seized the mobile phone and computer of Los Angeles Dodgers owner Mark Walter last September in a wide-ranging probe into the financial dealings of the billionaire’s businesses.”
Per Mider’s sources, who have remained anonymous, the Federal Bureau of Investigation executed a search warrant aboard a private plane in Chicago while Walter was traveling. It remains unclear where the devices currently are and what is being sought on them.
Bloomberg News previously reported that “federal prosecutors in Manhattan have been investigating potential financial improprieties at two of Walter’s insurance companies and at Guggenheim Partners, the financial firm Walter leads.”
TWG, Walter’s holding company, provided the following statement:
“Mark Walter and TWG have always acted in good faith, and those who have done business with Mark know him as honest and straightforward. We are cooperating with authorities, and we are confident these matters will be resolved favorably.”
Walter recently celebrated the Dodgers’ 2025 World Series championship at the White House, where he gifted United States president Donald Trump a personalized championship ring.
