Jake Burger vs Michael King in the Burger-King matchup.

The Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees are playing a doubleheader on Thursday at Yankee Stadium, with the White Sox coming away victorious in Game 1, 6-5. And the game featured a hilarious batter-pitcher matchup in the seventh inning.

White Sox slugger Jake Burger came to the plate to face Yankees pitcher Michael King. That’s a Burger-King matchup!

Yankees play-by-play announcer Michael Kay of YES Network realized that a Burger-King matchup was taking place in the middle of the at-bat, and followed with jokes.

“King wants to have it his way now,” Kay said.

On a 1-2 count, Burger grounded out to third base.

“That is a Whopper of an out that King got,” Kay quipped.

Social media also got a kick out of the matchup and seeing “Burger” and “King” on the score bug.

Yankees beat writer Bryan Hoch of MLB.com tweeted (with a Burger King GIF included), “It’s happening. Jake Burger vs. Michael King.”

“These burger king ads are getting out of control,” tweeted the popular Yankees account @PlayoffTanaka_.

“WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER,” tweeted Samantha Schultz.

While Burger didn’t win the Burger-King battle, he had a big game overall at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and two-run homer to help the White Sox get a road victory.
