Cheesesteaks jersey

Here’s great news for cheesesteaks enthusiasts. The Lehigh Valley IronPigs, Triple A-Affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, are changing their name to honor their city’s most iconic food item. The club announced on Tuesday that the IronPigs will become the Cheesesteaks on June 10th for “Salute to Philadelphia Night.”

“Today, we’ve officially raised the Steaks,” exclaimed IronPigs President and General Manager Kurt Landes. “As a Phillies affiliate, we can’t wait to celebrate all things Philadelphia, including the iconic cheesesteak on ‘Salute to Philadelphia Night.'”

This isn’t the first time the IronPigs have rebranded to a food item, as back in 2014 the club introduced bacon hats and jerseys into their uniform collection that quickly went viral around the world.

Here’s the very Philadelphian promo video, which features a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reference. It’s surprisingly well done.

The IronPigs are holding a fan vote to decide whether the team will wear “Wit” or “Witout” hats, which is a reference to ordering etiquette for onions (editor’s note: always wiz wit. ALWAYS). The jerseys the club will be wearing have the word “Steaks” on the front in “Cheese Wiz” yellow. The patch shows dripping cheese, which was made to look like a hot cheesesteak sandwich.

“Salute to Philadelphia Night” is June 10, and will feature appearances from the Phillie Phanatic and a fireworks show post-game. You can find more details on the promo night here. Something tells me they’ll also be serving plenty of Philly cheesesteaks.
