Joe Maddon and his Chicago Cubs got their heads shaved Saturday afternoon supporting “Respect Bald”, a fundraiser for pediatric cancer research. It’s the second time the Cubs have participated in the event.

Fans were able to donate $100 to get their heads shaved with the members of the Cubs. Along with Joe Maddon, bench coach Dave Martinez and teammates Ben Zobrist, Albert Almora, Kyle Schwarber, Matt Szczur, and others. Anthony Rizzo also participated, who has been personally affected by cancer after beating Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

“I just feel like anything we can do to help the kids, it’s worth it,” pitcher Edgar Olmos said, via Cubs.com. “It makes me feel good. I just want to see the kids happy.”

“When it comes down to children, kids, I’m a father, I’m a grandparent, and when you see kids impacted by this disease, it bothers all of us,” Maddon said. “We want to contribute.”

The event came to Chicago after Maddon started it when he managed the Tampa Bay Rays.

Players who did not participate made donations instead, but to see everybody in solidarity by cutting their hair is pretty neat, and a great move by Maddon and his players.
