John McEnroe may be best known for his tennis skill and hot temper, but on Monday night at Citi Field he showed he has a pretty decent fastball too.

Let’s get a few things out of the way first. First, when it comes to the ceremonial first pitch, rarely will the special guest throw their pitch from the top of the mound. Some major leaguers can’t even do that well, right? So when one steps to the top of the mound, they are either really confident or setting themselves up for embarrassment. How many poor first pitches have we seen from the bottom of the mound, or in front of the mound? A ton.

Not McEnroe. He knew what he was stepping into, and he knew how to deliver. Take a look at this rocket from McEnroe prior to Monday night’s game between the New York Mets and New York Yankees…

The MLB trade deadline expired Monday afternoon, but if your favorite team didn’t get the arm they were looking for on the trade market, perhaps they could give a call to McEnroe.
