It’s safe to say that this season has not gone the way the New York Mets had hoped as the team currently sits next-to-last in the National League East division, 17 games out of first place and 6.5 games outside of a wild card spot. And as a result, it looks like the team could be looking to trade away one of their top pitchers: Justin Verlander.

According to a report from New York Mets insider Mike Mayer of Metsmerized, the team getting “strong interest” from multiple teams around Major League Baseball and could get “an offer they can’t refuse” from one of those teams.

According to Mayer, those teams include the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Houston Astros, and the Texas Rangers.

“Sources: Mets are getting strong interest from multiple teams regarding Justin Verlander. Mets would like Verlander for the 2024 season, but there’s belief from other MLB executives the Mets might end up with an offer they can’t refuse. Dodgers, Astros, & Rangers involved,” Mayer said in a tweet.

It’s certainly major news for the Major League Baseball world, and people had plenty to say about it on social media as a result.

We’ll have to see whether or not Verlander is indeed traded before the deadline.
