On Friday night, the New York Mets’ official Twitter account sent out a photo of first baseman T.J. Rivera wearing a crown in the clubhouse after the game.

In the background, nestled in catcher Kevin Plawecki’s locker, was a large dildo.

Well because this is 2017 and funny things that happen online are news, reporters trudged over to Plawecki’s locker Saturday to ask him about the photo. Plawecki’s quotes were… something.

Via the New York Post, here’s a sampling of what the catcher had to say:

“There’s some pranksters on this team,” a grinning Plawecki said before the Mets hosted the Marlins Saturday night at Citi Field. “Honestly, I don’t really know how to handle this one. This is kind of unbelievable.

“What can you do? Just got to laugh this one off.”

“I got nothing to do with it, I know that. I didn’t know it was there. It’s not mine.”

“It’s not something I really want to be involved with,” he said. “I had nothing to do with it to begin with. It’s definitely awkward, it’s weird. … It by no means reflects who I am as a person, my beliefs, my views.

“At the same time, I do have a good sense of humor, and I like to think everybody does, too. That’s all I can say about it.”

When asked if he could parlay the incident into a sponsorship deal of some kind, Plawecki smiled and said: “I hope not.”

Has anyone ever been as embarrassed about anything as Plawecki seems to be about having a dildo in his locker? It’s as if he thinks the Gay Police are going to come whisk him away. He even went as far as to say sex toys don’t reflect his “beliefs” or who he is “as a person.” What does that even mean?

Anyway, it remains funny that the Mets tweeted that photo, and it is also funny that Plawecki is so eager to distance himself.
