The Cubs apparently used up just about all 108 years worth of karma during the 2016 World Series comeback, because this followup season has been a major disappointment.

Things had apparently hit a new low today with the release of veteran backup catcher Miguel Montero in the wake of Montero’s ill-advised (but accurate) comments to the media regarding Jake Arrieta’s difficulty holding baserunners.

And then the Cubs went to see Donald Trump.

And then, while losing to the Nationals for the second straight night, reigning MVP and only-consistently-good-Cub-hitter of 2017 Kris Bryant fielded the very definition of a routine pop-up on the infield, only to somehow catch his right foot on the corner of the third base bag:

Bryant was forced to leave the game:

Bryant had to be helped up the tunnel:

And so the 2017 Cubs season continues. If Bryant is going to be out for any extended period of time, it’s going to be harder and harder to see the positives that fans and analysts have noted so far; namely, that despite the poor start, they’ve hovered around .500 and remain within striking distance of the likely-undermanned Milwaukee Brewers.

Still, baseball is better when Kris Bryant is playing. Hopefully he gets back on the field soon.
