Yet another mass shooting took place in the United States this week, this time in Chicago suburb Highland Park, Illinois when a gunman opened fire at a 4th of July parade on Monday, killing six and injuring dozens.

In the wake of the tragedy, the Chicago White Sox opted to play Monday’s game against the Minnesota Twins as scheduled, electing only to cancel the postgame fireworks celebration. White Sox closer Liam Hendriks used his postgame press conference as an opportunity to slam the current U.S. gun laws and call for stricter gun control.

“I think the access to the weaponry that is being kind of used in these things is, uh, something needs to change. Something needs to be done. Something needs to happen because there’s way too many people losing their lives,” Hendriks said after the game.

“Too many people are dying, and it’s no excuse to say, ‘I’m on this side or that side,'” Hendriks continued. “At some point, things need to get done or else it’s getting to the point where civilization as you know it may be ending just to the fact there’s two drastically different sides. Something needs to change. Something needs to happen, and it needs to happen quick.”

Monday’s shooting was the sixth shooting in the United States to result in three or more deaths in less than two months.
