Tampa Bay Rays centerfielder Kevin Kiermaier is a defensive wizard. Usually.

But if you only saw the following play from Monday night, you’d have a hard time believing in Kiermaier’s defensive prowess.

The Kansas City Royals’ Lorenzo Cain — also an awesome centerfielder — hit your run-of-the-mill groundball single to center field, and Kiermaier completely whiffed on the ball.  That turned a single into a little league homer for Cain:

Certainly not Kiermaier’s finest moment, but he’s going to make his fair share of plays to make up for it over the season. Heck, he made arguably the best catch in MLB this year and did so while sick.
