Star third baseman Manny Machado has spent the past four years of his career helping lead the rebuild of the San Diego Padres. And based on a recent update, it looks like he will now be staying with the team for quite a bit longer – and getting paid a lot of money to do it.

On Sunday morning, Major League Baseball insider Jeff Passan of ESPN reported that the San Diego Padres and Manny Machado were nearing an absolutely massive contract extension that will keep him in San Diego for the next 11 years.

BREAKING: Star third baseman Manny Machado and the San Diego Padres are finalizing an 11-year, $350 million contract extension, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN. Machado helped turn around the franchise. He’ll stay as the ascendant Padres seek their first championship.

It’s an absolutely massive update for one of the biggest stars in all of baseball and is also huge news for the Padres, as they look to pursue their first World Series championship. As a result, the MLB world had plenty to say about it on Twitter following the report from Passan.

We’ll have to see how the massive extension works out for both the Padres and Machado in the future.
