Marcus Semien has made a career out of consistency.
He’s in the midst of a 23-game hitting streak which has him heading toward Texas Rangers history.
I promise I’m not trying to jinx this.
If the streak continues within a week, Semien could set a franchise record by Gabe Kapler, who notched 28-straight hits in games during the 2000 season.
According to the Dallas Morning News Evan Grant, Semien’s 23 games are tied with Adolis García, who reached the streak last season, Michael Young in 2008, and Josh Hamilton in 2010 for the fifth-longest in team history.
Semien’s 2023 season continues his knack for staying consistent, with the fourth season of his career leading the league in plate appearances.
It’s been a personal goal of his since the beginning of his career to start in every game. So far, he’s accomplished that twice.
The 2021 All-Star currently leads the league in runs with 54 and is slashing .303/.371/.506 with 73 hits and 47 RBI.
He also remains a team and league leader in more than what he does on the diamond.
“It’s so hard to quantify [how important he’s been to the team],” Rangers manager Bruce Bochy told the media recently, including MLB.com’s Kennedi Landry. “He’s out there every day. With the defense he gives you, with what he does offensively and what he does in the clubhouse, and with his work ethic, I don’t really don’t know how to measure how big he is for this team.”
