brawl

This has been quite the year for brawls in baseball, not necessarily because there have been more, but because there have actually been players going after each other looking to fight, from Rougned Odor and Jose Bautista to Manny Machado and Yordano Ventura. That’s something that basebrawls usually take criticism for—they’re usually not actually brawls.

But the Memphis Redbirds and the New Orleans Zephyrs, a pair of Triple-A squads, did not hold back and broke out in what was definitely a brawl.

The fight was started after Jose Urena of the Zephyrs tried to hit Jeremy Hazelbaker with a pitch in the head during the fifth inning. From there, the fight began.

Typically in these fights, once the bullpen guys get to the pile on the field, they’re pulling guys back and things settle down. But one player from the Zephyrs’ bullpen had his sights set on one individual, and let it fly. In total, five players and the Zephyrs manager were ejected from the game.

The Memphis Redbirds sure seemed to have enjoyed what had taken place on the field:
