Jim McIngvale, known in the gambling world as “Mattress Mack,” will win $75 million if the Houston Astros defeat the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2022 World Series.

McIngvale, an Astros fan, earned the moniker as the proprietor of the Gallery Furniture chain in Houston. McIngvale is a legendary sports bettor known for making six- and seven-figure bets in Las Vegas. He has won many of them, but none as big as what he’s attempting now.

McIngvale placed several seven-figure bets on the Astros to win the World Series, with odds from 10-to-1 to 5-to-1, according to the Houston Chronicle. That means if the Astros win the Series, which they’re favored to do, McIngvale will earn an eight-figure payday.

It would be the most significant gambling win in history.

“Mattress Mack is 4 wins away from winning $75 million on the Astros. It would be the largest recorded payout in legal sports betting history,” Action Network tweeted.

Game 1 of the World Series is Friday night, with the Astros hosting the Phillies. The Astros are listed as -185 favorites in the series, meaning a bettor would have to stake $185 to win $100. The first pitch will be thrown at 7 p.m. Joe Davis and Jon Smoltz will be in the booth for Fox, with Alex Rodriguez, David Ortiz, and Frank Thomas serving as pregame analysts.
