It’s safe to say that this season hasn’t gone the way the New York Mets had hoped as the team is currently eight games shy of a .500 record and 17 games back in the NL East division race. Things have gotten so bad that there are no legitimate questions about whether or not the team should consider trading their ace pitcher. And that conversation has even made its way to Max Scherzer himself.
This week, Max Scherzer was asked if he would consider waiving his no-trade clause and allowing the team to deal him to another before the Major League Baseball trade deadline. But it sounds like he’s going to punt that conversation down the line and only worry about it if it’s a conversation the New York Mets want to have.
Instead, Scherzer suggested that New York Mets team owner Steve Cohen could better answer the question.
“It’s pointless to even talk about it,” Scherzer said according to SNY. “Go ask Steve. If Steve says it’s so, then let’s talk about it. Until then, it’s pointless to even talk about or think about.”

As for Cohen’s answer, he said he didn’t want to “even broach that topic” of trading Scherzer or Justin Verlander.
