The New York Mets have been the best team in baseball through the first month and a half of the MLB season. And a big reason why has been just how effective the starting pitching staff has been.

Through their first 30 games of the season, the Mets have a 2.60 ERA, the best team ERA of any team in baseball. And the Mets starting pitching staff has perhaps been the biggest reason for this.

Thus far this year, there has not been a single Mets starting pitcher who has allowed more than four runs in a single start. Only six teams in the history of the MLB have a longer stretch of games where their starters have not allowed five runs, most recently coming in 2022 when the New York Yankees did so in 41 straight games, which tied for the league record.

It’s pretty easy to see how the Mets are currently the best team in baseball considering just how great the starting pitching staff has been.

Perhaps the scary part for the rest of the teams around the MLB is that their superstar slugger, Juan Soto, still hasn’t quite performed to expectations thus far, hitting for just a .250 batting average with three home runs on the year.

When Soto starts picking it up, the Mets will surely be even more dangerous considering just how well the pitching has been in New York.

Only time will tell whether the Mets can continue to pitch at this level moving forward, as it does seem a bit unsustainable to be this good. But still, it is undoubtedly a positive sign that the Mets are real contenders this year.
