The New York Mets are reportedly interested in the American League Comeback Player of the Year in 2021.

New York has an interest in designated hitter Trey Mancini. According to SNY’s Andy Martino, the Mets have reportedly pursued Mancini, who won the 2021 Comeback Player of the Year Award after surviving cancer.

Via SNY, Martino said, “Talking to people today, they could roll with what they have, but they have still been talking to free-agent outfielders / DH-types. Like Adam Duvall and Trey Mancini, two guys with championship pedigrees, have been players that have been on their radar. Both of those guys are talking to other clubs. But that could be something you see, guys who could play outfield, as I said, and play DH.”

Mancini won the World Series with the Houston Astros last season after Houston acquired him from the Baltimore Orioles. He had played his entire career with Baltimore up until that point, spending seven years with the team.

In 2020, Mancini was diagnosed with colon cancer and missed the COVID-19-impacted and abbreviated MLB season. He made a full recovery and returned to baseball in 2021.

Martino and SNY’s report also mentioned former Silver Slugger winner Adam Duvall as a potential target for the Mets, as well. New York’s busy offseason doesn’t look to be anywhere near complete if these rumors have legs.
