A member of the Coastal Plains League, the Savannah Bananas are an independent team made up of amateur collegiate players. Aside from having a fantastic logo and team name (it’s impossible to say “Savannah Banana” without feeling ten times better about being alive), they also apparently have a manager who excels at perhaps the most important trait a minor- or independent-league manager can possess.

If you were thinking “player development”, you’re wrong, it’s actually “flair for theatrical ejections”, and Savannah head coach Sean West (at the collegiate level you’re not a manager, you’re a head coach, though the real tragedy is that he’s not “Top Banana”) has flair for days.

Here, now, a clip from last night’s game, when West, annoyed with the apparently expansive strike zone, was ejected for arguing, only to continue his tirade with the aid of props:

Did this tactic work, via firing his team up, aiding the umpire in seeing the error of his ways, or perhaps some combination of the two?

Hell if I know, it’s a summer college league, it’s hard to follow along, but the end result was a good one:

Time to go Bananas, indeed.
