Mitt Romney and his family want to get into the sports ownership game, and they are going big. After having an attempt to buy the Miami Marlins seemingly fall flat for whatever reason, the Romneys are making a pitch to buy a piece of the New York Yankees according to Jon Heyman of Fanrag Sports.

As reported by Heyman, the Romney family has a bid somewhere between $25 million and $30 million for one tiny sliver of the franchise and could be willing to double that for a second piece of the Yankees ownership pie. The Romney family were previously reported to have offered $1.4 billion to purchase the Marlins.

This is not the first time the Romney family has been tied to a potential ownership bid in Major League Baseball. The family previously showed an interest in the Los Angeles Dodgers. Mitt Romney, the former Republican governor of Massachusetts and a former GOP nominee for president, is also no stranger to the sports world. Romney played an integral role in bringing the Winter Olympics to Salt Lake City.

Now let’s address the significant point of possible contention here: Romney is a fan of the Boston Red Sox fan. Romney even criticized his former presidential election rival Barack Obama for jabbing the Boston’s trade of Kevin Youkilis to Obama’s favorite team, the Chicago White Sox.

And now this member of Red Sox Nation wants to be a Yankee. This isn’t exactly earth-shattering from an ownership standpoint, as the Yankees will still be firmly in the hands of the Steinbrenner family under Yankee Global Enterprises. Still, the mere fact of Romney getting a chance to invest in the Yankees has some on edge for some reason.
