The biggest trending video in the early going of the 2022 Major League Baseball season doesn’t feature a home run, an amazing pitch (though it’s sort of related), or a great defensive play. It features a player getting hit in the butt by a pitch.

In the first inning of Monday night’s game between the Oakland A’s and Tampa Bay Rays, Oakland’s Sean Murphy was hit on the butt by a pitch from Tampa Bay’s Chris Mazza.

A video– from Twitter user @PadresGeekster — of Murphy’s butt taking the hit-by-pitch already reached two million views and 30,000 likes in just four hours.

Here’s a look at how Twitter is reacting to the butt HBP:

While Murphy’s butt is getting the most attention, the catcher also hit the first triple of his career — and drove in a run — in a 13-2 Oakland victory.
