Racing President Herbert Hoover

The 2016 election may be up for grabs until November, but a new President has already been selected in the state’s capital.

Today, it was recently announced that Herbert Hoover has been selected as the Washington Nationals newest Racing President mascot. The 31st President of the United States joins an elite cast of Racing Presidents, which includes the likes of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and William Howard Taft.

Hoover, who served one term in the White House from 1929-1933, was apparently a big fan of America’s favorite pastime, as he attended nine baseball games during his term in the Oval Office, three of which were World Series games. Hoover also threw four first pitches, all of which came in D.C. at the Washington Senators’ Griffith Park.

So President Hoover, or “Racing Herbie” as he’ll be called, is seemingly a proper fit to join the Nationals elite group of Racing Presidents.

However, Racing Herbie will be facing some stiff competition from veteran racing mascot Teddy Roosevelt, the 26th President of the United States and a fan favorite among Nationals fans.

No matter the challenge, Racing Herbie looks like he’ll be ready to step up to the plate. Only time will tell if he can challenge fan favorites like Teddy for the hearts of Nationals fans.
