Nationals home run celebration.

The Washington Nationals lived up to their name with an extremely fitting home run celebration on Monday against the Chicago Cubs.

The Cubs got out to a 2-0 lead, but Nationals outfielder Lane Thomas cut into the deficit in a big way in the bottom of the second inning.

Thomas took Cubs starter Drew Smyly deep for his first home run of the season to cut the lead to 2-1.

The moment called for a celebration, and it was a memorable one in the Nationals dugout.

The team replaced Thomas’s batting helmet for a presidential wig and an American flag as he received high-fives from his teammates.

The MLB world took notice of this and offered their opinion of this viral celebration.

Thomas has gotten off to a slow start this season in the power department, but he has proven in the past that he can provide some serious offense. He had a breakout year last season, hitting 17 home runs which was second on the team.

The Nationals have very few building blocks on the roster after trading star outfielder Juan Soto at the trade deadline last year. Thomas seems to be on track to be one of those players that they can build with. Nationals fans are certainly hopeful that his first home run of the year and this awesome celebration help spark his offense moving forward.
