This season hasn’t gone the way the New York Mets had hoped as the team entered Sunday six games shy of a .500 record and 17.5 games back in the NL East division race. Things have gotten so bad that there are legitimate questions about whether or not the team should consider trading their ace pitcher, who hasn’t even been with the Mets for two full seasons. And there is certainly a chance that Max Scherzer could be on a new team come Aug. 1, despite his insistence otherwise.

Following another lackluster start on Saturday, in which he gave up four home runs in an 8-6 loss to the Red Sox, Scherzer was asked about trade rumors as the Major League Baseball trade deadline is quickly approaching. Scherzer has already given his opinion when asked if he would consider waiving his no-trade clause; something that he previously described as “clickbait.

Of course, reporters have every right to ask Scherzer for his input, especially with the Mets’ season hanging in the balance. However, Scherzer will continue to punt that conversation, as his frustration boiled over with the line of questioning following Saturday’s loss.

“I’m just not commenting on trades. I’m just not,” Scherzer said. “I’m here to win with the Mets. Nothing else. There’s no reason…It’s clickbait.”

It remains to be seen if the Mets entertain any offers on Scherzer. In the meantime, the former Cy Young winner has clarified his opinion on the matter several times now.
