Zohran Mamdani was elected by the people of New York City as the City’s mayor, but many people aren’t very happy with the Democratic Socialist’s presence in the City. Now, you can add one of the city’s most beloved athletes to that group.
Retired MLB pitcher Noah Syndergaard called the mayor a “lunatic” and believes that his old team, the New York Mets, ought to “stop hanging out with socialist mayors” to get their season turned around.
The former flamethrower sat down for an interview with Outkick’s Tomi Lahren, in which he also claimed that former Mets players Pete Alonso and outfielder Brandon Nimmo left the club in part because they were some of the “biggest conservatives” and wanted away from the “craziness that’s going on in New York.”
Fans reacted to Syndergaard’s words on social media.
“The washed up athlete to MAGA grifter pipeline needs to be studied. Guess it’s one way to keep some attention after the world has forgotten you,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Washed up people always do this cause its so easy to grift republicans. Look at the trump phones for example,” someone else added.
“Calling out socialists is a no-brainer. I don’t know how many more times Socialism has to go bad before people learn that lesson. His soft socialism has already produced disastrous results,” one person added.
It’ll be interesting to see how Mamdani does the rest of his time in office.
