syndergaard

Noah Syndergaard is really embracing his nickname.

The New York Mets star pitcher posted a photo of lightning hitting the Empire State Building on Monday night and said he wasn’t responsible for the strike or the ensuing possible damage.

Why would Syndergaard be making the joke? Well, because he’s carried the ‘Thor’ nickname throughout his major league career. Considering ‘Thor’ — in Norse mythology and recently repopularized by The Avengers character of the same name — is the God of thunder and Syndergaard shares the nickname due to his luscious locks, it’s appropriate for him to post the photo.

He’s essentially saying “don’t blame Thor for the latest lightning strike.” Syndergaard does have a blistering fastball which can hit triple digits, but I’m afraid that’s the closest he’ll ever get to making lightning strike.

Syndergaard might have the ‘Thor’ nickname, but hasn’t reached his full potential and transformed fully into a Norse God. Maybe, then he’ll be able to summon lightning strikes at his own will. Until then, Syndergaard can take solace that his hair remains the best in MLB. It might be better than Thor’s.
