The Baltimore Orioles put on an offensive showcase in their season-opening game against the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday. But perhaps the biggest story to come from the game came from one of their new additions this season, former Gold Glove outfielder Tyler O’Neill.
While O’Neil’s biggest accolades in his career have come from his work in the field, it was his bat that stole the show yet again on Opening Day.
In the top of the third inning, O’Neill took Blue Jays starter Jose Berrios deep to extend the Orioles’ lead to 5-0. He would go on to have a picture-perfect day at the plate, going 3-3 with two walks and three RBIs.

The home run was significant because it kept a streak he already owned alive when it comes to Opening Day. This home run marks the sixth consecutive Opening Day that O’Neill has hit a home run in, which now puts him two Opening Days ahead of the second closest player to this milestone.
Tyler O’Neill, born in Canada and playing in Toronto, has now homered on Opening Day for six consecutive years: 106.1 mph off the bat, 376 feet to right for a three-run oppo-taco.

It has become a cliche to say that records may never be broken. But to put together this kind of record over the course of six years may truly be difficult for any other player to ever replicate.
Considering it is still an active record, expect for O’Neill to come out of the gates hot again in 2026. But even if he never hits another home run on Opening Day again, O’Neill may live in the MLB record books for a very long time for this wild accomplishment.
