The New York Yankees have not had a lot of highlights recently as the team entered Friday night’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays with just a 3-14 in the month of August. But one of the team’s newcomers gave the Yankees something to celebrate on Friday night with an incredible defensive play on just the first pitch of the game.

On the game’s first pitch, Yankees pitcher Jameson Taillon threw a fastball and Blue Jays outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. made solid contact, driving it deep into right field for an apparent home run. But then Yankees’ rookie right fielder Oswaldo Cabrera stuck his glove up and brought it back into the park.

Here’s a look back at the absolutely amazing play:

The close-up, slow-motion replay is even sweeter.

The fantastic play came in just Cabrera’s third Major League Baseball appearance. And naturally, the MLB world went nuts, taking to Twitter to react to the amazing play from the first-year big-leaguer.

Despite the incredible play from the rookie, the Yankees losing skid continued again as the team lost 4-0 to the Blue Jays, falling to just 3-15 in the month of August. But at least Cabrera was a bright spot.
