There is no indication the San Diego Padres are looking to trade Juan Soto this offseason, but fans and insiders on social media were busy Tuesday proposing trades to move the slugger to another team.

Soto began trending on X (formerly Twitter) Tuesday after a story by Jim Bowden in The Athletic. Bowden, the longtime senior VP and GM with the Cincinnati Reds and Washington Nationals, posed the question many have wondered in recent weeks: “Will the San Diego Padres move Juan Soto?”

Soto is set to become a free agent after the 2024 season, and the Padres might find it impossible to meet his demands, given their already bloated payroll.

Bowden mentioned five possible destinations for the All-Star: The New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Seattle Mariners, San Francisco Giants and Cleveland Guardians. Within hours, there were a number of Soto trade scenarios on X, involving those teams and other destinations.

If nothing else, the proposals were fun to consider.
