The San Diego Padres signed All-Star pitcher Yu Darvish to a huge extension on Thursday. San Diego agreed to terms on a six-year extension worth over $100 million, a huge move for the club with just a few days remaining until Spring Training begins.
MLB.com Padres reporter AJ Cassavell reported the news Thursday morning. “The Padres and Yu Darvish have agreed on an extension that will keep Darvish in San Diego through 2028, sources tell @feinsand and me. Darvish is coming off one of his best seasons in the big leagues. Deal is 6 years, $108M,” Cassavell tweeted.

Darvish, age 36, had a terrific 2022 season. He posted a 3.10 ERA in 194.2 innings pitched. He tossed 197 strikeouts and just 37 walks. His K/9 was a career-low 9.11, but he still clearly showed an ability to pitch extremely well. So the extension is a great reward for Darvish.
Darvish spent prior seasons in the big leagues with the Texas Rangers, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Chicago Cubs.
In his career, he’s posted a career 3.50 ERA with 1,788 strikeouts in 1,488 innings pitched.
In signing Darvish, the Padres set themselves up well for the present and future. Next for San Diego? Perhaps they work on an extension for All-Star third baseman Manny Machado, who had an MVP-caliber season.

gotta admire Yu Darvish's endurance and sustained success over the years.
Many of us are familiar with his ML career that started in 2012. but also, consider that he's been pitching in pros since 2005, when he broke into NPB as an 18-year old. logged many innings in Japan too.
