Kody Clemens

Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Kody Clemens has gotten off to a very tough start in the majors, but he’s been a beast in recent days.

The Philadelphia Phillies first baseman crushed a two-run home run off Houston Astros reliever Phil Maton in the sixth inning Saturday night.

Rounding the bases, the former Texas Longhorns player flashed the Hook ’em Horns sign.

Clemens, the son of seven-time Cy Young winner Roger Clemens, has struggled mightily as a hitter since debuting in 2022. He entered the day with a career batting average of .144 in 139 at-bats, and a career OPS+ of 44.

But he’s impressed this week, hitting his first home run of the season on April 23 against the Colorado Rockies. He then hit Saturday’s shot at Minute Maid Park with his father in the stands.

Could Roger’s son be figuring things out as a hitter at the MLB level?

Making things even more interesting, The Athletic’s Matt Gelb pointed out that the elder Clemens struck out 20 batters for the Boston Red Sox 37 years ago Saturday.

Twitter erupted after Clemens’ homer, sending him trending.
