in the first inning at Globe Life Park in Arlington on April 25, 2016 in Arlington, Texas.

It always seems that baseball players can go on the disabled list for the most bizarre of injuries.

Pitcher Jamie Easterly injured his back in the 1980’s when he stepped in a gopher hole while doing a backwards running drill. Wade Boggs missed a week of action after he strained his back while trying to put on cowboy boots. And who could forget Ryan Dempster needing to spend some time on the DL after fracturing his big toe while trying to jump the dugout railing after a Cubs win.

Rangers pitcher Jake Diekman’s DL stint will join those bizarre injuries and many more after he landed on the DL because he cut his finger on a broken souvenir beer mug.

To make it even more bizarre, the mug that was broken was a Cheers mug that Diekman had bought when the Rangers were up in Boston recently. The mug broke in his bag and a piece of glass pierced his finger and here we are.

Everybody will now know your name, Jake Diekman, after this installment of “bizarre baseball injuries”.
