The two-way talents of Shohei Ohtani were on full display in the Los Angeles Angels‘ 5-2 win over the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night.
As the winning pitcher, Ohtani threw seven scoreless innings, allowed just two hits, gave up zero earned runs, and struck out 10.
And at the plate, Ohtani hit a go-ahead two-run single, walked, and stole his 10th base of the season.

The Japanese sensation becomes the first MLB player since 1920 to strike out 10 batters, drive in two runs, and steal a base all in the same game.
Shohei Ohtani is the first player since RBI became official in 1920 to do all the following in a single game:
– 10 strikeouts as a pitcher
– 2 RBI as a batter
– a stolen base pic.twitter.com/GXmuoaGptt— ESPN Stats & Info (@ESPNStatsInfo) July 7, 2022
He hasn’t given up an earned run over his last four starts, while striking out 40 batters.

40 Ks & 0 earned runs in his last 4 starts! Only MLB pitchers to do this since they started tracking ER back in 1913:
Ray Culp, 1968
Chan Ho Park, 2000
Santana, 2004
Dickey, 2012
Kershaw, 2014
Kershaw, 2015
Sale, 2018
Scherzer, 2021
Ohtani, 2022 👀And he hits too. Insane. 🦄 https://t.co/zYb4OGa0sI

The 2021 AL MVP has a 2.44 ERA on the mound and an .839 OPS at the plate this season.
Here’s a peek at how the baseball world is reacting to Ohtani’s brilliance on Wednesday night:
Shohei Ohtani hasn't allowed a run since June 9.
That was 27 days ago.
Opposing hitters are OPS'ing .335 against him since then.
Ohtani's OPS during that stretch: 1.008.

What MLB pitchers have EVER gotten 46+ Ks in any 5-start span without allowing more than 16 hits and 1 total earned run?

R.A. Dickey, 2012
Kershaw, 2014
Robbie Ray, 2017
Burnes, 2020
Gausman, 2021

Ohtani joins Mike Trout (5 times), Darin Erstad (2 times) and Don Baylor (2 times) as the only Halos with multiple seasons of 15 home runs and 10 stolen bases before the All-Star break.

Los Angeles Angels since June 3
When Shohei Ohtani pitches: 5-0 record
When anybody else pitches: 6-20 record

You wouldn't think it possible, given how much we talk about him all the time, but I'm pretty sure Shohei Ohtani is still underrated. He's just doing wildly good stuff *all the time.*

Shohei Ohtani's fastball to strike out Jacob Stallings was thrown at 101 mph with 19.9 inches of induced vertical break.
That is absolutely ridiculous.
