MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred has never been afraid to implement changes to the game of baseball. But apparently, one future change that could be on the way has received some major pushback, courtesy of Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper.
With the collective bargaining agreement between the MLBPA and the league set to expire in December of 2026, there has been a push from MLB owners to have a salary cap implemented in baseball.
This change would obviously negatively affect player salaries in the MLB. So, during a recent interaction with Manfred in the Phillies clubhouse last week, Harper let Manfred know candidly where he stands on a potential salary cap in baseball.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Manfred alluded to the possibility of a salary cap being implemented during his time in the Phillies clubhouse. And Bryce Harper made it incredibly clear that he was against the possibility, telling Manfred to “get the f*** out of our clubhouse” if he was going to talk about a salary cap.
Tensions raised even more when Manfred essentially refused to back down from an aggressive Harper, responding to Harper by saying that he was “not going to get the f*** out of here”.

It’s certainly wild to see an MLB player, much less a star like Harper, attacking the MLB Commissioner like this so openly. And naturally, fans had plenty of takes about the situation on social media.

Chances are, this is a sign of what could very well be a very tense couple of years as the MLBPA negotiates with the league on a new CBA. But ultimately, if a salary cap is implemented, it clearly won’t be because of Harper, who has made his stance on the matter incredibly clear.
