Baseball is pretty awesome. Puppies are freaking adorable. Put the two together and you have a real home run.

The Savannah Bananas of the Coastal Plain League (summer collegiate baseball league) are making headlines for one of the best reasons possible. They adopted an abandoned puppy, and now that puppy is serving as the team’s new bat dog. The young pup was abandoned in the team’s parking lot two weeks ago with no identification of any kind. Initially found by a staff member, Daisy now has a home with team president Jared Orton. Orton and his wife officially adopted Daisy.

“One of our ticket sales staff found her crying in the parking lot and immediately brought her inside. We cleaned her up a little bit and got her water and puppy formula because she was obviously hungry and dehydrated,” said Orton. “From there we got her over to the local Humane Society to get a professional evaluation and see if anyone would claim her. We weren’t planning on getting a dog, but we knew we would be going back to pick her up and make her a part of the family!”

Dogs in baseball are nothing new. Along with various “Bark in the Park” games where dog lovers can bring their four-legged best friends, the Milwaukee Brewers have made Hank a part of their baseball family. We can only hope that fans of the Savannah Bananas get to watch Daisy grow and live a full life while helping to be the face of the team.

And yes, there really is a team named the Savannah Bananas.
