With reigning American League MVP Shohei Ohtani set to become a free agent after next season, there has been speculation that the Los Angeles Angels might seek to trade the superstar due to the team’s ongoing struggle and the possibility remains a source of conversation around Major League Baseball.
With the Aug. 2 trade deadline fast approaching, however, the Angels do not seem interested in trading Ohtani anytime soon, despite interest from around the league, according to Jon Morosi of the MLB Network.

“MLB teams are calling [the] Angels to express trade interest in Shohei Ohtani, but the Angels are indicating they have no plans to move the superstar before the Aug. 2 Trade Deadline,” Morosi wrote on Twitter.
This news comes shortly after other Angels superstar Mike Trout addressed trade speculation of his own, saying he still wants to remain with the team.
“I signed the contract and this is where I want to be,” Trout told Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register. “A lot of people are like, ‘Oh, he wants to be traded. Do this. Do that. I want to win. Everybody knows that.”
Ohtani and Trout have been two of the best players in the MLB for the past several seasons, but it hasn’t exactly led to success for the Angels, who appear to be on the way to missing the playoffs for the ninth straight season.
