It only seems like a matter of time before the Los Angeles Angels have to trade megastar Shohei Ohtani.

It seems crazy that they would even consider it but given how they continue to lose way too many games despite having both Ohtani and Mike Trout in their lineup, something has gotta give.

And when it eventually does, at least one Major League Baseball executive thinks that it’s either going to be the Los Angeles Dodgers or New York Mets who land the two-way superstar.

“The Dodgers and Mets should be considered favorites for superstar free agent Shohei Ohtani, one rival exec opined,” according to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman.

Heyman added that this executive is “not alone” in thinking that’s how the Ohtani sweepstakes would play out, though he does acknowledge that other teams could make a run of their own.

The Mets have long been considered a favorite to land the Japanese superstar, especially as current general manager Billy Eppler signed Ohtani when he had the same job with the Angels. Mets owner Steve Cohen is said to be enamored with the pitching and slugging star as well.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers have slashed payroll, presumably in an attempt to make sure they had enough room to sign the Angels’ star if they’re able to.

The Angels are currently 7-5 and owner Arte Moreno has said that the team won’t trade Ohtani if they’re in the playoff hunt before the trade deadline. We’ll see how it all plays out.
