Trevor Williams pitched two scoreless innings in relief in his MLB debut Wednesday as his Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 4-3, but his biggest highlight may have come after the win.
With his impressive debut, Williams received the game ball after the Pirates got a rare win against the Cardinals. But instead of holding onto the ball as a keepsake, Williams went over to visit his family, and handed the ball to his father. It was an emotional moment that was thankfully caught on camera.

NO, YOU’RE CRYING. Seriously, what a fantastic moment. We are lucky enough to see a fairly private moment between a father and son. It is a joyous occasion, and the happiness from both Williams and his father is infectious.
Coming on in relief was a strange moment for Williams. The right-hander spent nearly the entire season in the starting rotation for Pittsburgh’s AAA affiliate, but after his call-up, Pirates manager Clint Hurdle decided that Williams would help the team most by coming out of the bullpen.
While Williams’ appearance was impressive, the moment between him and his father definitely overshadows any action on the field. It’s easy to see how strong the relationship is between this father and son, and it’s easy to root for Williams going forward. Hopefully we will be subjected to more positive moments like this one.
