It appeared the New York Mets were on their way to a fourth straight loss, with all of those coming at home, vs bad teams. After losing three straight games to the NL-worst Atlanta Braves, the Mets trailed the Philadelphia Phillies 6-4 in the bottom of the ninth, when Jose Reyes hit a two-run homer to tie the game:

And then in the bottom of the 11th, the Mets again found themselves trailing by two runs. With two on and one out, Asdrubal Cabrera came through as the hero, crushing a three-run dinger to give the Mets a 9-8 win. It was quickly clear that Cabrera had hit a homer, as he immediately had an amazing reaction that included a two-handed bat flip. Here’s video:

What would’ve been another maddening loss for the Mets became a huge, huge win thanks to Cabrera’s swing. This bonkers NL Wild Card race now has the Mets (81-70) a half game up on the St. Louis Cardinals (80-70; off today), and at worst tied with the San Francisco Giants at the end of the night (Giants currently playing the Padres).
