Baseball can get testy sometimes, but an independent league player decided it was a good idea to charge the opposing team’s dugout in anger. Spoiler alert: It wasn’t.

In a game featuring the New Jersey Jackals and Rockland Boulders of the independent Can-Am League, Jackals pitcher Fernando Cruz was clearly mad about something as he dashed behind the umpire — during live action — towards the Boulders dugout. Cruz was greeted by a Rockland player who grabbed him and slammed him to the ground. TKO. The Boulders catcher was unfortunately nailed in the head with Cruz’s foot after the takedown.

Deadspin reports Cruz was pissed off arguing with a Boulders player in the ninth inning of an 8-3 game. He hit Marcus Nidiffer and the two exchanged words. Cruz clearly wasn’t over the conversation.

I mean, how stupid could Cruz be? Getting upset at an opposing player is fine, but to charge at the opposing team’s dugout during live action is more than dumb. Cruz basically positioned himself to fight against the entire Boulders team. It only took one player to drop him the ground. He was in a no-win situation and comes across like a giant baby – even if he was offended with whatever was said. There are better ways to blow off steam. Take it out on the Gatorade jug.

Cruz should be suspended for the outburst. Hopefully, he spends time thinking about how stupid this move was.
