Making a sports movie right is a tough, tough gig. Most of them are either overly corny or just extremely ill conceived. One of the few successful sports movies, prominently involving Charlie Sheen, has some World Series ties to it. it somehow .

Sheen, who played Rick “Wild Thing” Vaughn in “Major League” has thrown his weight behind the Cleveland Indians, as they play the Chicago Cubs in the World Series. He didn’t do it with a simple announcement either, he dressed up as the famous character and even had some music to set the mood.

While the “Go Tribe” is pretty cool, putting this much effort into something like this and such little payoff is odd. Sheen has to be pretty bored to put this together. Or just a huge Indians fan.

There was an internet campaign to have Sheen throw out the first pitch of a World Series game, but unfortunately the Indians selected former players Kenny Lofton and Carlos Baerga to throw out the first pitches of Games 1 and 2, respectively.

Sheen does have some Ohio roots, as his father Martin was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. Realistically, however, the Indians couldn’t put Sheen out there after all of the newsworthy moments he has had over the past few years, many of them involving large amounts of drugs.

It may disappoint some fans that he isn’t going to be participating in the actual series, but take solace in this: The Indians are 0-1 when Sheen makes a video supporting the team. Maybe fans should start to believe in those advanced stats and move on.
